Two Victims Named in the Ivy League School Incident as Police Persist in Hunt for Perpetrator.

Two students who died in Saturday’s mass shooting on the university campus were honored at the start of the week – as a manhunt for their shooter persisted following the release by Rhode Island officials of the single suspect of interest in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a second-year student from Alabama, was remembered as “an amazing, stable, pious, radiant soul”, per the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

She served as the vice-presidency of Brown’s division of the campus GOP group, as the club stated. The White House press secretary also shared words of sorrow online, stating: “It's indescribable. Thinking of her family and friends, especially her parents.”

MukhammadAziz Umurzokov

The other person killed was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his freshman year at the prestigious university, family members said.

Umurzokov’s identity was verified by the Uzbek Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

“He was incredibly kind, funny, and smart. He had big dreams of becoming a neurosurgeon and aiding others,” his sibling Samira said in a online post.

Details of the Attack

An additional nine individuals were hurt in Saturday’s attack in the school of engineering of Brown’s university in Providence, during the school’s final exam period.

Law enforcement reported by the end of Sunday that a 24-year-old male detained in a search at a hotel about approximately 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was released from custody.

Officers that raided the inn recovered a pair of pistols and magazines when the person of interest was taken into custody, as was reported.

The Wounded Victims

The president of College Republicans, Martin Bertao, released remarks from the group. “Ella was recognized for her bold, brave, and kind heart as she served her chapter and fellow classmates,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “deeply saddened” by the passing of Umurzokov in a statement. “We extend our sincere condolences to his relatives, loved ones, and schoolmates and mourn the loss of his potential.”
