In the 94th minute, unbridled joy erupted for Chelsea and interim manager Calum McFarlane as Enzo Fernández forced home a dramatic equaliser. The goal left Pep Guardiola ranting in frustration and provided the temporary Chelsea manager a unforgettable moment. On paper, Guardiola versus McFarlane was the Premier League's most pronounced managerial mismatch in class, making the memory of Fernández's crucial intervention one to warm the 40-year-old in his dotage.

A Stark Contrast in Pedigree

On the City bench stood the generation's pre-eminent figure, a man with four decades of silverware for elite clubs Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, overseeing his 1,012th match. In the opposite technical area, stood a one-time trainer at non-league sides Croydon and Whyteleafe, who had served in City's own academy and arrived to make his first-team debut after being temporarily promoted from his regular role overseeing Chelsea's youth teams.
