Teacher Killed and 25 Female Students Kidnapped in Firefight at Nigerian School

Security breach at educational facility
Educational institutions in the northern part of Nigeria have become frequent targets for militant organizations

Armed assailants have taken the life of an instructor and kidnapped no fewer than 25 pupils in an attack on a girls' secondary school in Nigeria's northwestern region, police reports indicate.

The criminal group breached the public educational institution for female students in Maga, Kebbi State at roughly 4 in the morning local time on Monday, officials stated.

The assailants "engaged police personnel on duty in a firefight" before climbing over the boundary wall and abducting the learners from their living quarters, an official report indicated.

One member of staff was fatally shot while defending the students. A second sustained gunshot wounds and is now undergoing medical care.

Eyewitnesses described a large group of attackers, identified in the area as outlaw groups, who appeared discharging weapons intermittently to cause panic.

Area inhabitants informed journalists that the armed men then led a group of female students into surrounding rural areas.

The law enforcement confirmed they had positioned "additional police tactical units, together with army members and local protection units" to the area.

A coordinated search and rescue operation is presently taking place in adjacent wooded areas and believed flight corridors.

In recent years, learning centers in northern Nigerian regions have become frequent targets for militant organizations, who routinely perform seizures to demand financial compensation or secure advantages in discussions with officials.

The assault in Kebbi State emphasizes the ongoing security challenge troubling the locality, leaving families in Maga in a state of fearful exhaustion as they anticipate and pray for their young ones' unharmed reappearance.

Security crisis in Nigeria's northern territories has intensified significantly in the past few months, with schools suffering the most of the unrest.
