Nearly twenty-five thousand residences in Queensland's southeast woke up experiencing outages on Monday morning after powerful weather events passed over the state, generating wind gusts reaching 109km/h.

Large Frozen Precipitation and Broad Damage

Residents witnessed giant hailstones reaching sizes of 7cm in particular locations. The Bureau of Meteorology confirmed that various areas across Queensland had been affected by significant hail.

Emergency crews were attempting to repair electricity service throughout the damaged zones, with approximately seventy teams working to manage the extensive power failures.

Victorian Storm Challenges

At the same time, around 1,000 residents in the southern state also encountered electricity disruptions after the capital city saw its wettest day in over 500 days.

State Emergency Services responded to nearly 600 calls for help across the region, mainly for structural issues but also for downed trees and water accumulation.

• Werribee region - saw significant destruction
• Hoppers Crossing suburb - numerous rescue reports
• Wyndham area - nearly 180 calls for assistance

At one point on the previous day, in excess of 28k power users in Victoria were without power.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were forecast to persist along large portions of Queensland's east this coming days as a atmospheric system continued to pull in damp air against the shoreline.

The following day was predicted as the most rainy day, with continued thunderstorm potential anticipated across multiple regions of both regions.

Health Warning

Public health experts alerted that there was an higher risk of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, particularly given the current weather patterns.

This caution comes after historical occurrences where analogous circumstances led to substantial respiratory problems in the region.
