Iran Claims Strike on US Base in Bahrain, As Part of Widespread Retaliatory Strikes.
Iranian forces say they have struck a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a "massive" and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.
Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an vicinity close to the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The extent of any damage is not yet known and the US has not commented.
Missile Defenses Activated
Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, the State of Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - reported they have engaged and destroyed incoming projectiles in their air space.
In the Qatari capital, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles apparently targeting the Al Udeid Air Base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.
Operation "Truthful Promise 4"
The Iranian Revolutionary Guard said in a statement it was targeting US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in reprisal for the offensive on Iran initiated by the United States and its ally Israel on Saturday morning.
That initial attack - launched at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted locations linked to the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to revolt against the regime.
Regional Fallout
In the State of Israel, sirens were heard nationwide after the Israeli military reported it had identified an incoming Iranian missile barrage.
The defence ministry of the UAE said in a statement that the country has been targeted by a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".
"UAE air defence systems engaged the projectiles with great effectiveness and destroyed a number of missiles," it added.
The statement noted missile fragments fell on a residential area in the capital, resulting in some structural damage and the death of one civilian.
The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
