The British heavyweight repeated his much-discussed remarks about being prepared to “kill” his opponent during a press event in Miami on Wednesday.

His words were originally stated on Tuesday when the boxer was questioned if he would show restraint against the social media star, responding that “if I can kill you, I'll kill”.

The upcoming fight against the YouTuber-turned-boxer has sparked concern over safety concerns and the physical disparity between the two athletes.

Tyson Fury Calls Joshua a “Disgrace”

Former titleholder The Gypsy King called Joshua a “disgrace” for his extreme language.

But the 36-year-old fighter, justified his stance: “It's my job, we fight. We have a licence to kill.

“I understand many people don't comprehend it but this is what my job is. I love what I do. Whatever happens, happens - provided that my hand is raised, that's what's paramount, respectfully.”

He continued, “That's just the psychology we have to have as fighters. I'm unsure if other fighters think that way. Maybe they're a bit more reserved. The way my mind works. When you're in the squared circle, it's a dangerous thing. Everything can happen.”

“You wish your opponent leaves the ring unharmed, but if they don't, you still have to go to bed knowing you just did your job. It was not personal.”

Jake Paul's Fiery Retort

Jake Paul, a huge underdog in the heavyweight contest as a career lighter fighter, was equally fiery in his response.

“This is a contemporary combat sport,” Paul stated. “I'm ready. I want his most powerful punches. I want there to be zero excuses when it's all said and done. Let's kill each other.”

Joshua will face his opponent, 28, at Florida's Kaseya Center in a fight many see as a glaring mismatch, with some suggesting it should have been sanctioned as an exhibition bout.

The professional contest will be contested over 8 three-minute rounds using standard 10oz gloves, with a specified maximum weight for the former champion.

Joshua Claims He Was “Called In to Rescue” Boxing

Despite the extreme language used, Joshua claimed he has been “called in to rescue” the sport of boxing.

“They want me to put an end to the Jake Paul show and I understand it and that's why I have to bear boxing on my back in this bout,” he added.

The event also had lighter moments, with AJ laughing as his rival sang ‘London Bridge Is Falling Down’ to him.

The final staredown passed without incident, with the underdog adopting a odd posture before the champion remained calm and playfully touched Paul's necklace.

Paul & Joshua Dismiss Pre-Arranged Allegations

The surreal nature of this bout has led to speculation about its authenticity, including suggestions that Joshua may be restricted from knocking Paul out.

“There are no clauses in the contract, Joshua can confirm it. We're going to war,” Paul said.

Joshua, wearing a valuable chain, jokingly remarked, “The only thing in the agreement that got my attention was the purse.”

He has stated on social media that the total purse will be extremely large.

Jake Paul first made his name as an online prankster, gathering a huge online audience.

He has not faced anyone of the former champion's pedigree but maintained that his rival would take him seriously.

“It's a wise move on his part,” he said. “This could potentially be, and will be, the largest defeat of his career.”

A victory for the underdog would be perhaps the most shocking surprise in the sport's annals.

It would undoubtedly leave an permanent stain on Joshua's legacy, but the fighter said it would not spell the end.

“I'd return again, move on,” he remarked. “I'll be main eventing again in a couple of years. That's life. I'm a competitor in the game.”
