As stated by a high-ranking defense official, the American military executed a lethal kinetic engagement on a boat in the eastern Pacific, resulting in the deaths of four individuals.

“Joint Task Force Southern Spear carried out a lethal kinetic strike on a craft operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization in international waters. Intelligence verified the vessel was transiting along a established narco-trafficking route and was engaged in illicit drug transport. All four male narco-terrorists were eliminated, and no American forces were harmed.”

Context and Recent Actions

The statement follows a day after an announcement regarding a blockade of all targeted oil tankers entering and leaving Venezuela. In that announcement on social media, the American leader alleged Venezuela of using oil revenues to fund narcotics smuggling and other crimes, vowing to escalate the military presence.

Just on Tuesday, the Pentagon stated it had carried out strikes on three boats suspected of smuggling narcotics in the Pacific, leading to the deaths of eight people. Since 2 September, over 20 strikes have resulted in the deaths of at least 99 individuals, most off the coast of Venezuela.

Government Justifies Tactics Amid Pressure

The government has faced increasing demands to make public video of a September 2nd vessel attack. However, officials have refused to do so. The administration has defended its efforts as a successful operation, saying it has prevented drugs from entering US shores and has dismissed concerns that it is stretching the limits of lawful warfare.

While the administration has stated the campaign is about halting drugs destined for the US, comments from a top official seemed to suggest a broader political aim. In a recently published interview, the senior advisor said the leader “aims to keep on blowing boats up until the Venezuelan president cries uncle.”

This indicates the series of strikes may be linked to a push to remove Venezuela's current government.
